YUPWEGO was born of the desires of globetrotters and travelers. It’s a wonderful community of mutual aid between travelers and locals who have forged a friendship based on that unique bond, the human bond.

I’m sure you appreciate that we don’t think of you as a cash cow, a cash machine… but as what you are, a human being.

Our idea was born in March 2017 and has never ceased to animate us: To ensure that we can all travel in a form of thoughtfulness, caution and mutual respect. Awareness that we belong to a great whole in this world, in this nature.

We love people, and we take care of them and their impact on our nature. We do it with care, with heart.

So, with the help of our growing community, we took stock of what didn’t suit our personal ethics, what were the “sticking points” (or points of more or less profound annoyance) in travel and between globetrotters. So we established what needed to be done as a priority to improve all this.

We listed 173 sticking points, and the thing that irritated travelers the most, that generated the most frustration and misunderstanding: travel insurance/repatriation assistance.

44% of travelers were poorly insured for their trip, and 17% were not insured at all, due to a lack of understanding or awareness. I interviewed 617 people who had travelled around the world, gone away for several months or visited several countries several times a year.

For example, I have this benign but very painful illness such as cystitis, and in the end: the person was not insured because he had been away for more than 3 months (he had stayed a little longer than expected in the Saharan desert). You’ve been away for more than 90 days. “But when I asked before leaving how I was insured, I was never told that I would no longer be insured after 90 days…” she told me.

There are often commonplaces: we imagine things, but in reality they’re not true.

The first commonplace is that the credit card (CB) is the holy grail that makes everything possible. In many cases, bank card guarantees are inadequate, insurance periods insufficient, information unclear, exclusions as long as the arm and absolute rigidity. But above all, there is a ceiling and you have to pay in advance.

The second common ground is: “I already have repatriation assistance, in my CB premium or gold or top-of-the-range contract…, car, home and probably elsewhere with Social Security and my mutual insurance, so I’m not going to pay, yet again, for something I probably already have.”
